Apple Unveils Smarter Features Across Maps, Wallet and More
Apple is preparing a major expansion of its digital services with new intelligence-powered features for Apple Maps, Find My, Apple Wallet, Apple Pay, Podcasts, Music, iCloud and Fitness+. Announced on June 9, 2026, the improvements are expected to arrive alongside Apple’s 2027 software releases in the fall.
The updates focus on making everyday activities—such as exploring cities, sharing locations, splitting restaurant bills, managing passes and enjoying entertainment—more convenient across the Apple ecosystem. Many features will work across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Apple Newsroom
Apple Maps Gets Smarter Flyover Views and Local Lists
Apple Maps is receiving an improved Flyover experience that combines detailed aerial imagery with artificial intelligence. Users will be able to explore supported cities through sharper and more realistic views, helping them preview destinations before travelling or discover places from a different perspective.
Apple is also introducing Local Lists for users in the United States. These collections will highlight relevant places based on current local trends, including popular restaurants, family-friendly destinations and locations suitable for meeting friends.
According to Apple, these recommendations are designed with privacy in mind and are not connected to individual user identities.
Find My Adds Custom Location-Sharing Controls
Find My will offer more flexibility over how long users share their locations. Instead of relying only on fixed sharing options, users will be able to select a duration measured in minutes, hours or days. They can also choose an exact date and time for location sharing to end.
Another useful option will allow someone to pause location sharing with selected contacts until the end of the day. This could help users organise surprises or temporarily protect their privacy without permanently changing their settings.
Apple Watch is also getting a unified Find My application. The new app combines the functionality of Find People, Find Devices and Find Items into one map-focused interface. Supported devices will also offer Precision Finding for locating compatible iPhones, AirTags and AirPods.
Apple Intelligence Makes Splitting Bills Easier
One of the most practical iOS 27 additions is an intelligent bill-splitting experience using Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence.
Users will be able to scan a receipt with the iPhone camera or select an existing photograph of a bill. The system can identify individual items and help each person select what they ordered. It then calculates their share of the total, including applicable tax and tip.
This feature will be accessible through Messages, Apple Wallet and supported Visual Intelligence experiences. Apple Cash availability and device requirements mean the bill-splitting feature will initially be limited to eligible users in the United States.
Apple Wallet Can Turn Physical Cards into Digital Passes
Apple Wallet will make it easier to store loyalty cards, membership cards and other barcode-based passes.
Users can scan a physical card or compatible digital image with their iPhone and save it as a pass in Apple Wallet. Once added, the pass can be displayed as a barcode or QR code on an iPhone or Apple Watch.
Frequently used passes can also be pinned to the Smart Stack on Apple Watch for quicker access.
Participating hotels and resorts will be able to provide a more detailed digital key experience. In addition to unlocking rooms and facilities, hotel passes may display reservation information, activity updates and available guest services.
Apple Pay Introduces a More Informative Checkout Design
Apple Pay is getting a redesigned checkout experience for online and in-app purchases. The new interface will make it easier to switch between payment cards and review relevant payment information before completing a transaction.
Depending on the selected card and region, users may see:
Available rewards balances
Debit account information
Eligible pay-later options
Relevant payment choices
Purchase and delivery details
Apple also plans to allow eligible users to add funds to supported debit cards through Wallet or during an online checkout.
Tap to Pay on iPhone Becomes More Personalised
Apple is expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone with a feature called Tap to Share. Customers will be able to securely provide selected information to participating merchants by tapping their iPhone against the merchant’s device.
Shared details may include an email address, shipping address, contact information or loyalty membership data. Customers will remain in control of the information they choose to provide.
They will also be able to review their basket in real time and confirm that discounts or promotions have been applied before paying with Apple Pay. Tap to Share will require a compatible iPhone and will not initially be available in the European Economic Area.
Apple Podcasts Brings Video Playback to Mac and Apple TV
Apple Podcasts is expanding its video capabilities to macOS and tvOS.
Mac users will be able to watch video podcasts while using Picture in Picture for multitasking. The experience will include supporting features such as transcripts, chapters and timed links where available.
The Apple Podcasts app on Apple TV will receive a redesigned interface with video playback, improved navigation and better support for creator artwork.
A new search-within-a-show feature will also help users find individual episodes more quickly across supported Apple devices and the Apple Podcasts website.
iCloud Shared Albums Receive a Major Upgrade
Apple is improving Shared Albums with higher-quality photo sharing and better collaboration tools. The redesigned experience will support full-resolution content, additional file types, emoji reactions and more detailed activity updates.
Temporary shared albums will let users collaborate on short-term events or projects without permanently consuming their iCloud storage.
Apple is also opening web participation to people who do not own an Apple device, allowing more friends and family members to view and contribute photographs through a browser.
Selected iCloud+ plans will additionally provide higher daily limits for certain Apple Intelligence functions, including image-generation features.
Apple Music Expands Translation and Audio Features
Apple Music is adding more language combinations to Lyrics Translation and Lyrics Pronunciation. These tools are designed to help listeners understand songs and sing along when the original lyrics are written in an unfamiliar language or script.
AutoMix will deliver smoother transitions between compatible songs and expand to Apple Music on Apple TV and HomePod.
Apple TV 4K users with compatible external audio equipment will also be able to access Hi-Res Lossless Audio through tvOS, providing a higher-quality listening experience.
Apple Sports Expands to More Countries
The free Apple Sports app is expanding its international reach. Apple says the service will provide scores, statistics, standings and other sports information in more than 170 countries and regions.
Coverage includes major sporting events and competitions available through Apple TV, such as Major League Soccer, Friday Night Baseball and Formula 1 in the United States.
Apple Fitness+ Launches a Menopause-Focused Programme
Apple Fitness+ has introduced Strong Through Menopause, a progressive three-week programme featuring Yoga and Strength workouts.
The programme is designed to support people navigating perimenopause and menopause by helping improve strength, balance and mobility while reducing stress. Apple has also added related content to Time to Walk.
When Will Apple’s New Service Features Be Available?
Apple says these service updates will roll out through its upcoming software releases in the fall of 2026. Testing began through the Apple Developer Program following the announcement, with public beta access planned ahead of the final release.
Availability will depend on the device, language and region. Some features—particularly Apple Cash bill splitting, payment tools and location capabilities—will have additional eligibility or hardware requirements.
